Academics
At EuroMed we understand the evolving nature of medical education and each student’s role in shifting the paradigm.

Medical students are individuals with unique histories and experiences. That is why we offer several distinct educational routes; each one designed to guide and support aspiring physicians as they work towards achieving their goal of practicing medicine.

Students approach our starting gate at various stages in their educational development. Whether you are graduating from high school, college or university, you will find within EuroMed’s array of programs the perfect match to meet your needs.

OUR PROGRAMS

Five Year MD Program

The 5-year MD program is a unique partnership with the University of Malta Faculty of Medicine. The 5-year program at EuroMed Institute is designed for college graduates who have a pre-med background. Graduates of two-year pre-med programs from a community or junior college may also be considered on a case-by-case basis. The first two years of medical school focus on the basic sciences. Much of your time will be spent in the classroom and the laboratory. The coursework will provide you with the fundamentals of how science is applied to the art of medicine and patient care.  During this time you will prepare for the first of your licensing exams, which you must pass to move on to the third and fourth years of medical school. After you complete your first two years of school, you must take Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination – USMLE (see Clinical Education link for details). Once you have passed Step 1 of the USMLE, you will still be enrolled in classes, but also begin rotations in hospitals and clinics. Third-year students rotate through a series of core medical specialties. During your fourth year, you will be able to choose elective rotations in the areas that interest you most. By the end of your fourth year, both components of Step 2 of the USMLE must be completed. Completion of all steps of the USMLE will also be required.

Six Year MD Program

The six-year program at EuroMed Institute is designed for graduating high school seniors or community/junior college students who exhibit academic excellence and a desire to become a physician. Additionally, students who do not have a pre-med background and do not have an MCAT score should consider this program.  Our six-year program is similar to the combined B.S./ M.D. programs offered in the United States. During the first two years of the program, a student must meet all general curriculum requirements and complete all required pre-med courses. In the third year, students begin formal medical education, which is similar to the first year of U.S. medical school. During this time you will prepare for the first of your licensing exams, which you must pass prior to your fourth and fifth years of medical school. After you complete your fourth year of education, you must take Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination – USMLE (see Clinical Education link for details). Once you have passed Step 1 of the USMLE, you will still be enrolled in classes, but also begin rotations in hospitals and clinics. Fifth-year students rotate through a series of core medical specialties. During your six-year, you will be able to choose elective rotations in the areas that interest you most. By the end of your six-year, both components of Step 2 of the USMLE must be completed. Completion of all steps of the USMLE will also be required.  In addition to the general curriculum, we also offer country-specific language and cultural immersion courses.

Plus One

In some cases based on specific university curriculum requirements or by a student’s choice, EuroMed offers a Plus One program. The Plus One program allows students to complete their clinical rotations after graduation from their medical studies.
