Five Year MD Program

The 5-year MD program is a unique partnership with the University of Malta Faculty of Medicine. The 5-year program at EuroMed Institute is designed for college graduates who have a pre-med background. Graduates of two-year pre-med programs from a community or junior college may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The first two years of medical school focus on the basic sciences. Much of your time will be spent in the classroom and the laboratory. The coursework will provide you with the fundamentals of how science is applied to the art of medicine and patient care.

During this time you will prepare for the first of your licensing exams, which you must pass to move on to the third and fourth years of medical school.

After you complete your first two years of school, you must take Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination – USMLE (see Clinical Education link for details).

Once you have passed Step 1 of the USMLE, you will still be enrolled in classes, but also begin rotations in hospitals and clinics. Third-year students rotate through a series of core medical specialties. During your fourth year, you will be able to choose elective rotations in the areas that interest you most. By the end of your fourth year, both components of Step 2 of the USMLE must be completed.

Completion of all steps of the USMLE will also be required.
